Bank of Russia issues commemorative coins of precious and base metals

On 12 August 2020, the Bank of Russia issues the following commemorative coins:

— a silver proof coin in the denomination of 3 rubles ‘500th Anniversary of the Tula Kremlin’s Construction’;

— a base metal coin in the denomination of 5 rubles ‘Coin Commemorating Kuril Islands Landing Operation’.

Description of the precious metal coin:

The silver 3-ruble coin (fine precious metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925) has a round shape and is 39.0 mm in diameter.

The obverse and reverse sides of the coin have a relief rim along the circumference.

The obverse of the coin features a relief image of the national emblem of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions: ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the coin denomination ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2020 г.’ (2020), the chemical symbol of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, fineness, the trade mark of the Saint Petersburg Mint and fine metal content.

The reverse of the coin (Catalogue Number: 5111-0430) has a relief image of the Tula Kremlin against the background of the panoramic view of the city, laser treated for matte finishing; at the top to the left there is a relief image of the Tula emblem; along the circumference there are inscriptions: ‘ТУЛЬСКИЙ КРЕМЛЬ’ (TULA KREMLIN) at the top and two lines ‘500 ЛЕТ’ (500 YEARS) at the bottom to the right.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs.

Description of the coin made of base metal:

The coin has a round shape and is 25.0 mm in diameter.

The obverse and reverse sides of the coin have a relief rim along the circumference.

The edge of the coin is intermittently corrugated.

In the centre of the obverse side of the coin there is a two-line inscription of denomination ‘5 РУБЛЕЙ’ (5 RUBLES) and ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA) below, at the bottom there is the year of issue ‘2020 г.’ (2020), on the left and on the right there are stylised images of plant branches, and in the right-hand part of the coin there is the Moscow Mint’s trademark.

The reverse of the coin (Catalogue Number: 5712-0051) features a relief image of the Monument of Soviet Army Soldiers — Liberators of the Kuril Islands in 1945; along the circumference there are the inscriptions ‘КУРИЛЬСКАЯ ДЕСАНТНАЯ ОПЕРАЦИЯ’ (KURIL ISLANDS LANDING OPERATION) and ‘1945 г.’ (1945).

The mintage of the coin is 2.0 million pcs.

The new coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation and their acceptance for all kinds of payments at their face value is mandatory, without any restrictions.
