Average mortgage interest rate drops below 9% in January, hits new all-time low

The weighted average interest rate on housing mortgage loans (HML) in rubles decreased to 8.84% in January 2020, vs 9.00% in December 2019. In January 2019, this indicator was 9.87%. This is evidenced by the data posted on the Bank of Russia’s website.
In January 2020, banks extended 80,600 HMLs for a total amount of 192.8 billion rubles, which is 14.5% more than during the same period of the previous year.
As of 1 February 2020, the aggregate debt on ruble- and foreign currency-denominated HMLs amounted to 7.75 trillion rubles (including credit claims acquired by credit institutions).
