Contest to select symbols for new Bank of Russia banknotes: rivalry intensifies
Almost 608,000 people voted on Твоя-Россия.рф website to select new 200- and 2,000-ruble banknotes over the first week of the final third round.
As of 13 September 2016, Volgograd takes the lead with 84,527 votes thus ousting again Irkutsk (81,183 votes). The second runner-up is Sevastopol with 77,125 votes which managed to narrow an almost 3-fold gap in four days. The symbols of Far East have been enjoying greater popularity over the last days and managed to collect 71,092 votes. Kazan is still holding the 5th position with 68,419 votes followed by Sochi, Nizhny Novgorod, Sergiyev Posad, Vladimir and Petrozavodsk.
The first week proved that the standings may change daily and all cities-contestants have chances to win the contest. The citizens of Russia arrange flash mobs and other non-standard and unexpected actions to win more supporters and to increase the number of votes.
The all-Russian selection of symbols for new 200- and 2,000-ruble banknotes was initiated by the Bank of Russia. Never before the Russians could suggest and select symbols for new banknotes by themselves. The competition will be a three-round procedure with 7 October 2016 being its final day when the winners will be announced.
