Last chance: three days left for Russians to bring forward symbol of their city for new Bank of Russia banknotes
Only three full days are left for the residents of Russia to have a chance to promote the symbols of their city on Твоя-Россия.рф website. If the symbols fail to collect 5,000 votes they will not qualify for the second and third rounds and be sure not to appear on new Bank of Russia 200- and 2,000-ruble banknotes.
If the Russians vote actively roughly 10 to 15 symbols more can theoretically clear 5,000 vote barrier and qualify for the second round. These are mostly second or third attractions of the cities, but there are also cities with no symbols available on the interactive map of the contest.
As of now, the Dormition Cathedral in the city of Vladimir is most likely to succeed in winning more than 5,000 votes. Besides, the Russians actively support Klyuchevskaya Sopka Volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula and the Perm Art Gallery.
As of the morning of 26 July, 1,027,932 persons voted on Твоя-Россия.рф website. They suggested 67 symbols, belonging to 43 cities. At the moment the interactive map bears as many as four cities qualified with 3 symbols such as Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk and Tula.
The all-Russian selection of symbols for new 200- and 2,000-ruble banknotes has been launched by the Bank of Russia. For the first time in the history of the country the Russians may propose and select by themselves what should be displayed on new banknotes. The contest is a three-round procedure with 7 October 2016 being its final day when the winners will be announced.
