Bank of Russia issues commemorative coins
On 11 July 2016, the Bank of Russia issues a silver proof coin in denomination of 3 rubles to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the city of Orel. The reverse side of the coin depicts relief images of the Cathedral Assumption of Michael the Archangel, a view of the city and the Alexander bridge across the Orlik river. There is a two-line inscription on top „ОРЕЛ ОСН. В 1566 Г.” (OREL FOUNDED IN 1566). The mintage of the coin is 3,000 pieces.

Besides, a silver proof coin in denomination of 25 rubles „Творения Этьена Мориса Фальконе” (Works by Maurice Etienne Falconet) of the series „Сокровищница мировой культуры” (Treasury of World Culture) is issued. The reverse side of the coin depicts relief images of the statue „Зима” (Winter) to the left and Falconet’s portrait against the Monument to Peter the Great in Saint Petersburg to the right. The mintage of the coin is 1,000 pieces.
The series „Древние города России” (Ancient Towns of Russia) will be added by commemorative coins in denomination of 10 rubles: „Ржев, Тверская область”, „Великие Луки, Псковская область”, „Зубцов, Тверская область” (Rzhev, Tver Region; Velikiye Luki, Pskov Region; Zubtsov, Tver Region). The reverse side of the coins depicts relief images of Rzhev, Velikiye Luki, and Zubtsov respectively. The mintage of the coins is 5 million pieces for each design. Overall, 34 coins have been issued in this series since 2002.

Coins „Петрозаводск” (Petrozavodsk) and „Феодосия” (Feodosia) are issued within „Города воинской славы” (Towns of Martial Glory) series. The reverse side of the coins has relief images of coat of arms of Petrozavodsk and Feodosia respectively. Denomination of each coin is 10 rubles. The mintage of the coins is 10 million pieces each.
