The Bank of Russia congratulates war veterans on Victory Day
More than 18 thousand of the USSR Gosbank employees went to war during the first days. On the 6th of May the Bank of Russia held a traditional ceremony of conferment and honouring of the Great Patriotic War veterans who worked there after the war.
‘The act of valour committed by the Great Patriotic War veterans will always be a part of the collective memory. The whole nation rose to the defence of the homeland. The USSR Gosbank made a huge contribution to the victory; it found the resources to finance the defence order, the whole country’s production sector; it rendered financial assistance for factories evacuation, provided settlement system for the economy, saw that the army’s and country’s money needs are met. Furthermore, a significant part of the USSR Gosbank employees were called up for military service. After the war the Gosbank supported a quick recovery of the country’s economy. We wish all the veterans good health and longevity!’ said Georgy Luntovskiy, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Russia in his address to the veterans.
The victims of the Great Patriotic War were honoured with a moment of silence.
By tradition, Aleksandr Zolotov, an antiaircrafter who took part in defence of the capital, came to meet his former colleagues. He congratulated his companions in arms, who protected the sky of the homeland and the USSR Gosbank employees, who were in charge of continuous army financing in the most difficult combat conditions. Fedor Barilov took part in seven Victory Parades on the Red Square and is safe and sound. Let us not forget Vladimir Vasyukov, who went to war when he was a school student and who worked in the Bank of Russia system for more than 50 years after the war. He is actively involved in the Bank of Russia Veterans Council, which has both war and labour veterans as its members.
Unfortunately, not everyone of the veterans was able to come to the Bank of Russia for the ceremony. Therefore, representatives of the personnel department visited them the day before the event to congratulate them on the most important day for the country. Similar ceremonies will take place in every Bank of Russia Territorial Branch.
