New retail investments in corporate bonds hit historical high

News

Individuals’ appetite for bonds continued to rise in April, driven by growth in securities quotes. Retail investors bought corporate bonds worth ₽157 billion to hit a new historical high. Also, they actively purchased federal government bonds (worth ₽92 billion).

Backed by rising oil prices, corporate sales of foreign currency doubled in April to support the ruble appreciation. Concurrently, individuals showed greater demand for foreign currency, with their FX purchases being worth ₽108 billion.

Stock indices were predominantly negative at the end of the month amid a stronger ruble and a higher investor appetite for bonds.

More details are available in the new issue of the Financial Market Risks Review.
