Banks prevent theft of ₽3.5 trillion in 2025 Q3
Over July–September 2025, banks prevented 28.5 million fraudulent transactions, according to the Review of Reporting on Information Security Incidents Related to Funds Transfers.
In 2025 Q3, malefactors conducted 460,100 fraudulent transactions, which is 51% more compared to the average of the past four quarters. The amount of stolen funds barely changed, totalling ₽8.2 billion. Increasingly more people report thefts to banks, even those involving small amounts. To a great extent, this is because a number of large credit institutions have upgraded their mobile apps ahead of schedule by launching a function enabling fraud victims to promptly report fraudulent transactions. From October 2025, all large banks are obliged to make this function available in their apps.
From July through September 2025, the Bank of Russia initiated the blocking of 17,300 phone numbers and 7,800 internet resources, including social media accounts, owned by malefactors.
