Detection of counterfeit banknotes: 2016 Q1 statistics

In the first three months of 2016, 16,545 counterfeit Bank of Russia notes were detected in the Russian banking system. The majority of fakes are 5,000-ruble banknotes (10,014 pieces) and nearly half of this number were counterfeit 1,000-ruble banknotes (5,608 pieces).

In the first three months of 2016, 930 counterfeit banknotes of foreign countries were detected with over half of them (502 pieces) identified in March. The US dollars covered the overwhelming majority of forged banknotes (870 pieces).

Counterfeit euros, Chinese yuan, UK pounds sterling and Australian dollars were also detected.
