Share of 200- and 2,000-ruble banknotes totals 6% in 2018

The number of 200- and 2,000-ruble banknotes in circulation is growing gradually, supplanting proximate denominations. In this way, 2018 saw a drop in the number of 1,000-ruble (from 31% to 27%) and 100-ruble (from 20% to 19%) banknotes, according to the Bank of Russia data.

Total cash in circulation as of 1 January 2019 amounted to 10.3 trillion rubles. The number grew by 775.2 billion over the course of the year.
