Cash turnover in 2023 equals ₽123.8 trillion
In 2023, banks’ cash offices and ATMs received ₽60.4 trillion in cash and provided cash worth ₽63.4 trillion, as calculated by the Bank of Russia. The regulator for the first time publishes statistical data on cash turnover with respect to individual banking transactions and by region.
Trade accounted for most of cash inflows, specifically ₽6.8 trillion, which is 1.8% more than a year before. The inflow of cash into individuals’ bank accounts increased by 29% to ₽9.5 trillion. Banks provided ₽11.7 trillion, which also exceeds the figure of the previous year by 29%. As for loan transactions, cash receipts and disbursements increased by 12% and 48%, respectively, amounting to ₽1.1 trillion in each case.
Moscow and the Moscow Region (₽27 trillion and ₽8.4 trillion), St Petersburg (₽7.9 trillion) and the Krasnodar Territory (₽5.8 trillion) are the leaders in terms of cash turnover.
Market participants may need information about the main indicators of cash turnover to analyse data and improve business processes. Such data will be published quarterly.
