The 300th Anniversary of the Russian Fleet
Obverse
the two-headed eagle designed by artist I. Bilibin. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «25 РУБЛЕЙ 1996 г.» (25 RUBLES 1996), at the bottom — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA). The letters below indicate the metal sign, the fineness, the fine metal content and the mint trademark.
Reverse
a view of a fortress and sailing-ships during the Battle of Sinop, to the left above them - a portrait of Admiral Pavel Nakhimov, under it - the semicircular inscription " П.С. НАХИМОВ" (P. S. NAKHIMOV). The inscriptions along the rim: at the top on a ribbon - "300-ЛЕТИЕ РОССИЙСКОГО ФЛОТА" (THE 300TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RUSSIAN FLEET), at the bottom - "СИНОПСКОЕ СРАЖЕНИЕ - 1853 г." (THE SINOP SEA BATTLE - 1853).

During the Crimean War the last battle of the sailing-fleet era occurred. It took place on November 18 to 30, 1853, in the Bay of Sinop where the Russian squadron commanded by Admiral Pavel Nakhimov defeated the Turkish squadron, giving the Russian navy control over the Black Sea.
