The 250th Anniversary of the Saint Petersburg Mining University
Obverse
a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and a semicircular inscription above it along the rim ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) framed with paired diamonds on both sides, under the coat of arms are the chemical symbol of the metal and fineness on the left and fine metal content and the mint trade mark on the right, at the bottom in the centre, in three lines, are an inscription ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the coin denomination ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), and the year of issue ‘2023 г.’ (2023).

a relief image of the main building of the Saint Petersburg Mining University; relief images of a quotation from the order of Catherine II on the establishment of the University ‘Be it enacted by Catherine II’, the emblem of the University and the year of its foundation ‘1773’ against the background of a decorative ornament resembling a natural pattern on a mineral cut, laser treated for matte finishing, below; and the relief inscription ‘САНКТ-ПЕТЕРБУРГСКИЙ ГОРНЫЙ УНИВЕРСИТЕТ’ (SAINT PETERSBURG MINING UNIVERSITY) on the left around the circumference.

The Saint Petersburg Mining University is the first technical education institution in Russia. It was established in 1773 under the Decree signed by Empress Catherine the Second. The magnificent architectural ensemble was designed by the renowned Russian architect Andrey Voronikhin specially for students of the former Mining School.
