Obverse

in the center — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two headed eagle designed by I.Bilibin, lower — the semicircular inscription — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA) framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ТРИ РУБЛЯ» (THREE RUBLES), at the bottom — «1999», the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right — the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

Reverse

the portrait of A.S.Pushkin holding a goose quill in his hand. To the left on the writing desk before him — a manuscript, a light and a woman's portrait.In the background to the right at the top — a personage of the tragedy «Mozart and Salieri», to the left — a sheet of the notation in music and a violin, lower — personages of the tragedy «The Stone Guest», to left — a sword; the inscription in the middle: «АЛЕКСАНДР ПУШКИН» (ALEXANDR PUSHKIN) and the dates «1799» «1837»; at the bottom — a personage of the narrative «The Queen of Spades», to the right — a playing card.
