Obverse

in the centre - the Emblem of the Bank of Russia [the two-headed eagle with wings down, lower - the semicircular inscription - "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA)] framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top - "ТРИ РУБЛЯ" (THREE RUBLES), at the bottom - the year of issue "2003", the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right - the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

Reverse

the view of a fortress framed by a stylized window-arch, in the foreground - two sailing ships. The inscription on a ribbon at the top along the rim - "ВЫБОРГ" (VYBORG).

The Vyborg Fortress was founded by Swedes on the northern coast of the Baltic Sea in the XIIIth century. During the Northern War of 1700 - 1721 it surrendered on the eve of the assault of Russian Army in June of 1710.
