Obverse

in the centre - the Emblem of the Bank of Russia [the two-headed eagle with wings down, lower - the semicircular inscription - "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA)] framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top - "ПЯТЬДЕСЯТ РУБЛЕЙ" (FIFTY RUBLES), at the botiom - the year of issue "2002", the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right - the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

Reverse

in the centre - the Dionissy's icon "The St. Virgin Odygitriya" (painted in 1502) from the iconostasis of the Church of the St. Virgin Nativity of the St. Ferapont Monastery (kept today in the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg), lower- the inscription "ДИОНИСИЙ" (DIONISSY), to the left - the miniature of the XVIth century from the "Personal Annalistic Code": "Ioann III and Sophia Paleolog Celebrating their Wedding", to the right - the Seal of Ioann III.

Dionissy the Wise (1440-1502/1503) - a famous ancient Russian painter and an outstanding representative of the Moscow painting school. His iconostasis and wall-painting decorated the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Moscow Kremlin, the Monastery of the Christ' Ascension (Moscow), St. Joseph Volokolamsky, St. Pafnuty monasteries (near Moscow). thе Cathedral of the St. Virgin Nativity of the St. Ferapont Monastery situated in the northern part of Russia is well known in the world thanks to the Dionissy's wall - paintings preserved in the cathedral. The cathedral was decorated with wall-paintings by Dionissy and his two sons Vladimir and Feodossy during 34 days from August 6 till September 8, 1502. In 1989 the St. Ferapont Monastery painted by Dionissy's frescos was registered by UNESCO as the monument protected by the State.
