Obverse
the two-headed eagle designed by artist I. Bilibin. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «50 РУБЛЕЙ 1997 г.» (50 RUBLES 1997), at the bottom — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA). The letters below indicate the metal sign, the fineness, the fine metal content and the mint trademark.
Reverse
the picture of the Coat of Arms of Moscow with George the Victorious sitting on the horseback and spearing the winged dragon. The inscription at the top along the rim: «850-ЛЕТИЕ ОСНОВАНИЯ МОСКВЫ» (850TH ANNIVERSARY OF MOSCOW).

The Coat of Arms of Moscow was approved in 1730, and confirmed by an imperial decree in 1781. After a hundred years, in 1883, it was once again confirmed by law.
