The sable is a quick and clever animal with luxurious fur. It is found in the coniferous forests stretching from the northern Urals to the Pacific. Russians have hunted the sable, highly valued for its fur, since time immemorial. The sable is represented in the coat of arms of the old Russian cities of Irkutsk, Yakutsk and Verkhoturye.
