The 175th Anniversary of the Alexander I Monument in Saint Petersburg
Obverse
in the centre - the emblem of the Bank of Russia [the two-headed eagle with wings down, under it - the semicircular inscription "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA)] framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim - on top: "ДВАДЦАТЬ ПЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ" (TWENTY FIVE RUBLES), below: to the left - indications of the precious metal and its fineness, in the centre - the year of issue "2009 г." (2009), to the right - the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.
Reverse
in the centre of the disc - the Alexander I Monument against the background of the arc of the building of the former General Staff , to the left - images of obverse and reverse of the commemorative coin of 1834 To the right - dates in two lines "1834" and "2009",above -inscription along the rim: "АЛЕКСАНДРОВСКАЯ КОЛОННА" (THE ALEXANDER I MONUMENT).

The Alexander I Monument (by archit. August Montferrand) erected on the Palace Place in Saint Petersburg as the memorial of the victory of the Russian army over Napoleon in the Patriotic War 1812 was inaugurated solemnly on September 10, (August 30) 1834. For that occasion the first commemorative silver coin has been issued with depictions of the Monument and the portrait of Alexander I.
