The participants of the 1st Kamchatka Expedition (1725 - 1730) headed by navigator Vitus Bering sailed by "Saint Gabriel" sailing boat along the Kamchatka and Chukotka shores and reached the Arctic Sea via a strait dividing Asia and America, which was named later on after Bering. Vast geographical studies and for those days extremely precise cartographic works as well as investigations of life and manners of aborigines had been carried out during this expedition.
