The Monastery of the Virgin’s Saint Entrance Presentation was founded in 1314 by Trifon, the bishop of Rostov. It was built on the bank of the River Tolga, at the place of marvelous appearance of the Virgin’s Icon. Today there are two copies of this icon: one of them is at the Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow, the other – at the Museum of History and Arts in Yaroslavl. The Monastery of the Virgin’s Saint Entrance Presentation is a remarkable complex of the Russian architecture of the XVIIth century.
