Obverse

in the center — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two headed eagle designed by I.Bilibin), the letters under it indicate the metal sign, the fineness, the mint trademark and the fine metal content. The inscriptions along the rim framed by a circle of dots: at the top — «3 РУБЛЯ 1993 г.» (3 RUBLES 1993), at the bottom — "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA).

Reverse

a brown bear with fir-trees in the background, to the left - a church and a palace, to the right above - an ornament in the form of a bird perched on twig, the inscription at the bottom along the rim: "СОХРАНИМ НАШ МИР" (PROTECT OUR WORLD).

This series of five coins made of precious metals is dedicated to the brown bear. Brown bears are found in the Caucasus, on the Kamchatka peninsular, in Siberia and in the Maritime Territory of the Far East. A brown bear may be 2.5 metres long and weighs more than 300 kilograms. It is an omnivorous animal whose population is declining.
