Obverse

in the centre - the emblem of the Bank of Russia [the two-headed eagle with wings down, under it - the semicircular inscription "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA)] framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim - on top: "ДВА РУБЛЯ" (TWO RUBLES), below: to the left - indications of the precious metal and its fineness, in the centre - the year of issue "2008", to the right - the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

the portrait of V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko against the background of a drop-certain with the emblem of the Moscow Art Academic Theatre, below - the inscription along the rim: "В.И. НЕМИРОВИЧ-ДАНЧЕНКО" (NEMIROVICH-DANCHENKO) and dates: "1858-1943".

Vladimir Ivanovich Nemirovich-Danchenko (1858-1943) producer, actor, writer, dramatist and pedagogue. In 1898 in co-operation with K.S. Stanislavsky he founded the Moscow Art Theatre. In staging plays of A.P. Chekhov and M. Gorky they opened new ways of producer's and actor's skill. V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko played decisive role in setting up theatre repertoire. He staged plays of Russian classics (A.N. Ostrovsky, F.M. Dostoyevsky) and foreign authors (W. Sheakspear, G. Ibsen) and others.
