Obverse

in the center — the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two headed eagle designed by I.Bilibin, lower — the semicircular inscription — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA) framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim:at the top — «ДВА РУБЛЯ» (TWO RUBLES), at the bottom — «1999», the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right — the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

Reverse

the portrait of N.K.Rerikh against the background of mountains,at the bottom in two lines — the inscription «НИКОЛАЙ РЕРИХ »(NIKOLAI RERIKH)and the dates «1874» «1947».

Nikolai Konstantinovich Rerikh (b.September 27 [October 9 New Style]1874 d.December 13, 1947) — Russian painter, archeologist, traveler, writer, Full Member of St.Petersburg`s Academy of Sciences (1909), member of Association «World of Art»and initiator of the movement for protecting the culture monuments, founder of the Himalayan Research Institute «Urusvati» in Naggar, India (1929 1942).To protect culture values the International Rerikh Pact had been concluded in 1954.
