The 175th Anniversary of the Birth of Fedor Dostoyevsky
Obverse

the portrait of Fedor Dostoyevsky, to the left above - a view of several churches, below - the inscription in six lines "КРАСОТА СПАСЕТ МИР" (BEAUTY WILL SAVE THE WORLD), and a fragment of Raphael's painting Sistine Madonna, under them - a pair of shackles, to the right - two dates "1821" and "1881". At the bottom - the writer's facsimile signature.

Fedor Mikhailowich Dostoyevsky (1821-1881) - a Russian writer and essayist. In 1877 he was elected a corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences. In his works ("The Possessed", "The Karamazov Brothers", "Crime and Punishment", "The Idiot", "A Raw Youth", "Notes from the Dead House", "Poor Folk", "The Double", "The Writer's Diary" and other) Dostoyevsky analysed the social and moral crisis in Russia, depicted with profound insight the tragic existence of a "small" man and highly individual characters and attempted to find a way to social and personal harmony.
