Obverse

in the center - the inscription in two lines "5 РУБЛЕЙ" (5 RUBLES), to the left and to the right - a laurel and an oak branch, under the word "РУБЛЕЙ" (RUBLES) in the center of a broken line - the mint trademark, below - the date "1993". The inscriptions along the rim framed by a circle of dots: at the top — "ТУРКМЕНИСТАН" (TURKMENISTAN), at the bottom — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA).

Reverse

architectural monuments of ancient Merv, the inscription at the top along the rim: "МЕРВ" (MERV), below inscribed in two lines and encircled with a decorative border - the date "2500 ЛЕТ" (2500 YEARS), in the lower part - the inscription - "ТУРКМЕНИСТАН" (TURKMENISTAN) and an element of the design.

Founded many centuries ago, ancient Merv is located in Turkmenistan. The oldest fortified township was built 2,500 years ago. At present Merv is a group of picturesque archeological sites surrounded by fortress-walls and ruins of fortifications, and feudal palaces, mosques and mausoleums.
