Igor Feodorovich Stravinsky (1882-1971) is a brilliant composer of ballet, opera and symphony music and an outstanding conductor. His works have luxurious orchestral colouring. Starting from in his first ballets ("The Firebird", "Petrouchka" and "The Rite of Spring") he ingeniously used Russian folk tunes and music associated with the lifestyle and religious rites of ancient Russia.
