47,315 people voted for new banknote symbols on Bank of Russia Doors Open Day
The Bank of Russia Doors Open Day took place in 84 Russian cities where people could vote for new 200- and 2,000-ruble banknote symbols. Overall, 47,315 people joined the voting campaign within the Doors Open Day, and this is how they distributed their votes. Volgograd was the leader with 17,783 votes, followed by Irkutsk (11,585 votes) and Kazan (10,128 votes). Sevastopol took the fourth position with 8,922 votes, and the fifth place was taken by Far East (8,447 votes).
As expected, regions-finalists turned out to be extremely active. Nizhny Novgorod took the lead with 3,630 forms filled in, followed by Kazan (3,291), Volgograd (2,188) and Vladimir (2,083).
It was interesting to know which cities preferred those Russian whose regions did not take part in the competition as their symbols are already present on banknotes. This list includes Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Yaroslavl, Archangelsk, Khabarovsk and Veliky Novgorod. The locals in the regions stated gave their preference to Far East, Volgograd and Irkutsk respectively.
Taking into account the Doors Open Day results, website statistics is as follows: Far East is a new leader (362,629 votes) followed by Kazan which is coming on its heels with 362,281 votes. The third position is taken by Sochi (356,130 votes), followed by Sevastopol (354,166 votes) and Volgograd (333,668 votes). Petrozavodsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Sergiyev Posad, Irkutsk and Vladimir complete the top 10 positions in decreasing order.
Postal voting still goes on with forms published in Komsomolskaya Pravda daily and Argumenty i Fakty weekly keep coming to the Bank of Russia. The results of this voting will be declared on 7 October 2016.
The all-Russian selection of symbols for new 200- and 2,000-ruble banknotes was initiated by the Bank of Russia. Never before the Russians could suggest and select symbols for new banknotes by themselves. The competition is a three-round procedure with 7 October 2016 being its final day when the winners will be announced live.
