The Long Night of Museums at the Bank of Russia is becoming a regular event

The permanent exposition of the Bank of Russia’s Museum and Exposition Fund has taken part in the All-Russia Long Night of Museums for the second year in a row. This year, the exhibition was open to visitors on 20 May from 5 till 11 pm.

All tours were fully booked within 45 minutes after registration opened. Clearly, people are interested in the history of the county’s main bank and the Russian financial system. The excursion started off with a short concert: musicians played string and woodwind instruments. After that guests were shown a historical film about the Bank of Russia. This was followed by a tour led by museum staff. Considerable interest was piqued by a late XIX century safe from the Moscow office of the State Bank and an iron box which emitted chime-like sounds to scare away thieves. Visitors spent a leisurely time browsing the stands displaying ancient money, jewellery made of coins and posters of the Revolution and Civil War periods.

Guests also showed interest in the collection of money boxes of pre-revolutionary and Soviet times. For example, a money box with a built-in coin-operated clock needing a constant supply of coins to wind the inner mechanism, and a Soviet agitprop money box which savings banks sold in

Furthermore, the exhibitiondisplayed commemorative coins from the ‘Save our World’.

Those who missed the Bank of Russia’s exhibition during the Long Night of Museums can visit the exposition on other days by booking a tour during the opening hours of the Bank of Russia’s Museum and Exposition Fund.
