Bank of Russia issues commemorative coins of precious and base metals

On 5 September 2019, the Bank of Russia issues the following commemorative coins:

— silver 2-ruble coin ‘Weapons Designer M.T. Kalashnikov — Centenary of his Birth (10.11.1919)’ of the Outstanding Personalities of Russia series

— silver 2-ruble coin ‘Poet Mustai Karim — Centenary of his Birth (20.10.1919)’ of the Outstanding Personalities of Russia series

— silver 3-ruble coin ‘The Hunter and the Snake’ of the Legends and Folktales of Russia series

— silver 3-ruble coin ‘5th Anniversary of the EAEU’

— base-metal 10-ruble coin ‘Klin, Moscow Region’ of the Ancient Towns of Russia series.

Description of the precious metal coins:

The silver 2-ruble coins (fine precious metal content 15.55 g, fineness 925) and 3‑ruble coins (fine precious metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925) have a round shape and are 33.0 and 39.0 mm in diameter respectively.

The obverse and reverse sides of the coins have a relief rim along the circumference.

The obverse of the coins features a relief image of the national emblem of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the coin denomination ‘2 РУБЛЯ’ (2 RUBLES) or ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), the year of issue ‘2019 г.’ (2019), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the St. Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.

— The reverse of the 2-ruble coin ‘Weapons Designer M.T. Kalashnikov — Centenary of his Birth (10.11.1919)’ (Catalogue No. 5110-0161) features a relief portrait of Mikhail Kalashnikov and the inscriptions ‘КОНСТРУКТОР ОРУЖИЯ’ (WEAPONS DESIGNER) at the top, ‘М.Т. КАЛАШНИКОВ’ (M.T. KALASHNIKOV) at the bottom, and the years of the designer’s birth and death in two lines ‘1919’ and ‘2013’ on the right.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage is 3.0 thousand coins.

— The reverse of the 2-ruble coin ‘Poet Mustai Karim — Centenary of his Birth (20.10.1919)’ (Catalogue No. 5110-0162) features a relief portrait of Mustai Karim, an image of a flying eagle — the character of the poem ‘Releasing Birds’ — to the right of the portrait, the years of the poet’s birth and death in two lines ‘1919’ and ‘2005’ to the left of the portrait, and a facsimile of his signature on the bottom right.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The mintage is 3.0 thousand pieces.

— The reverse of the 3-ruble coin ‘The Hunter and the Snake’ (Catalogue No. 5111-0408) features a relief image of a hunter with a snake on his shoulder and a cat sitting on a birch, the name of the tale ‘ОХОТНИК И ЗМЕЯ’ (‘THE HUNTER AND THE SNAKE’) in an ancient script style on the birch bark — at the bottom, and the inscription ‘ЛЕГЕНДЫ И СКАЗКИ НАРОДОВ РОССИИ’ (LEGENDS AND FOLKTALES OF RUSSIA) — on the left.

The mintage is 5.0 thousand pieces.

— The reverse of the 3-ruble coin ‘5th Anniversary of the EAEU’ (Catalogue No. 5111-0409) features silhouettes of EAEU member states in the centre, coloured images of their national flags along the upper circumference that are extended below in curved lines, the coloured emblem of the EAEU under the images of the flags, and the inscriptions ‘5 ЛЕТ’ (5 YEARS) and ‘ЕАЭС’ (EAEU) at the bottom.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage is 3 thousand pieces.

Description of the base metal coin:

The coin has a round shape and is 27.0 mm in diameter. The coin is combined, comprising a disk and an outer ring around it.

The obverse and reverse sides of the coin have a relief rim along the circumference.

The edge of the coin is corrugated and has the inscriptions ‘ДЕСЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ’ (TEN RUBLES) repeated twice and separated with asterisks.

The obverse of the coin features the inscriptions along the circumference: ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA) at the top and ‘2019’ at the bottom. There are images of branches of the bay tree and oak tree to the left and right of the outer ring respectively, their elements extending onto the disk. The number ‘10’ and the inscription ‘РУБЛЕЙ’ (RUBLES) below denoting the face value of the coin are in the centre of the disk. The digit ‘0’ features a security element inside in the form of the figure ‘10’ and the inscription ‘РУБ’ (RUB) visible at various viewing angles to the coin surface. The Moscow Mint trademark is at the bottom of the disk.

The reverse of the coin (Catalogue No. 5714–0065) features a relief image of the townscape of Klin, an image of the municipal arms of Klin at the upper left, and the inscriptions on the outer ring: ‘ДРЕВНИЕ ГОРОДА РОССИИ’ (ANCIENT TOWNS OF RUSSIA) along the upper circumference, and ‘КЛИН’ (KLIN) along the lower circumference.

The mintage is 5 million coins.

The new coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation and are mandatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
