In memory of heroic deeds in Great Patriotic War

On 12 April 2024, the Bank of Russia issues silver commemorative coins.

A 2-ruble coin is issued in the series ‘Heroes of the Great Patriotic War of 1941—1945’. The coin is dedicated to Boris Safonov who was a real ace of military aviation. During the war, he shot down more than 20 enemy planes. For his heroic deeds, Safonov became the first twice Hero of the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War.

The second coin is a 3-ruble coin ‘Order of the Red Star’ of the series ‘The Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War of 1941—1945’.

The 2-ruble silver coin (fine metal content 15.55 g, fineness 925/1,000) and the 3-ruble silver coin (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1,000) have a round shape and are 33.0 mm and 39.0 mm in diameter, respectively.

The obverse and the reverse of the coins have a relief rim around the circumference.

The obverse of the coins features a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions: ‘РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ’ (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), ‘БАНК РОССИИ’ (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coins ‘2 РУБЛЯ’ (2 RUBLES) or ‘3 РУБЛЯ’ (3 RUBLES), the year of issue: ‘2024 г.’ (2024), the chemical symbol of the metal according to Mendeleev’s Periodic Table of Elements, fineness, the Saint Petersburg Mint trademark, and fine metal content.

The reverse of:

— the coin ‘Boris Safonov’ (Catalogue No. 5110-0182) features relief images of the portrait of Boris Safonov, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, and Gold Star medals against the background of images of a flying airplane silhouette with a trail and polar lights, laser treated for matte finishing, and the semicircular relief inscription ‘Б.Ф. САФОНОВ’ (BORIS SAFONOV) under the portrait.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs;

— the coin ‘Order of the Red Star’ (Catalogue No. 5111-0499) features a partially coloured relief image of the Order of the Red Star against the background of images of the Great Patriotic War, laser treated for matte finishing, and the relief inscription ‘ОРДЕН "КРАСНАЯ ЗВЕЗДА"’ (ORDER OF THE RED STAR) around the lower circumference.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs.
