On issuing of commemorative coin of precious metals

On 16 January 2017, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues a commemorative coin of precious metal:

  • A silver proof coin in denomination of 2 rubles - “The 190th Anniversary of the Geographer P.P. Semenov-Tian-Shansky’s Birth” (catalogue number 5110-0148) of the series “Outstanding Personalities of Russia”.

Description of the coin of precious metal:

A silver proof coin in denomination of 2 rubles (fine metal content 15.55 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 33.0 mm, mintage 3,000 pcs) has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coin bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin - “2 РУБЛЯ” (2 RUBLES) and the year - “2017”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Moscow mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side of the coin depicts a relief image of P.P. Semenov-Tian-Shansky against the background of mountains and contour images of riders on a horse and a camel. There is an inscription “П.П. СЕМЕНОВ-ТЯН-ШАНСКИЙ” (P.P. SEMENOV-TIAN-SHANSKY) along the circumference on top and the dates “1827”, “1914” in two lines at the bottom on the right.

The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
