Bank of Russia launches spring session of online classes on financial literacy
Online classes in the 2020 spring session will be offered from 22 January through 24 April. A total of 370 distance classes are scheduled for this period. They will cover a broad range of topics, including saving and accumulating funds, protection against cyber fraud, various financial instruments, insurance, taxation, pensions, etc. All of these topics correspond with sections of the financial literacy manual commissioned by the Bank of Russia. The manual is included in the federal list of publications that the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation recommends for Russian schools.
The online classes are primarily designed for school pupils in grades 8-11 and for students at vocational schools and colleges. Certain topics may be of interest for middle-grade pupils at secondary schools. Schools with access to the Internet will be able to participate in the online classes.
The project will help senior school pupils from all over Russia gain equal access to financial education; it will enable live communication with financial market professionals, and instil the principles of a responsible and well-informed approach to financial decision-making.
In 2019, 161,500 online classes on financial literacy were offered in Russia. More than 20,600 educational institutions participated in the project, including over 18,800 secondary schools, 1,300 vocational schools, and 481 institutions for orphaned children. The total number of views of online classes exceeded 3 million.
