Regional Economy: consumer demand rises amid slower economic growth

15 October 2025
News

Consumption continued to grow across Russia in general between August and September. Most regions saw rises in car sales. Central Russia, the North-West and the Far East reported strong demand for catering services amid increasing tourism.

Siberia registered a faster decline in the output of furniture mainly due to a cooler housing market. There was a drop in the number of orders for machine building products in the Volga Region and the Urals and for railway equipment in Central Russia. The cargo traffic at Far Eastern seaports, however, continued to increase, backed by larger exports to Asia. The output of chemicals was up in the Volga Region, largely driven by higher external demand for fertilisers.

Special topics of this issue are monetary conditions and credit and deposit markets, regional budgets, and the 2025 harvest.

Further details are available in the October issue of the report Regional Economy: Commentaries by Bank of Russia Main Branches.
