About high level seminar organized within the framework of the Tacis training program

On 20 April 2005 the Bank of Russia hosted a High Level Seminar on the supervisory implications of the implementation of the Basel II Agreement. The seminar was held within the framework of the Technical Assistance Programme of the European Union and the TACIS “Central Bank Training — III” Project.

The seminar was opened by Mr. S.M.Ignatiev, Chairman of the Bank of Russia, Mr. M.Franco, Head of the European Commission Delegation in Russia, addressed the seminar participants with welcoming speech. The speakers during the seminar were Ms. Daniele Nouy, Secretary General of the Banking Commission of France; Mr. Edgar Meister, Member of the Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank, and Mr. Jan Brockmeijer, Division Director Financial Stability of the Bank of the Netherlands.

The seminar was attended by senior officials of the Government of Russia, members of the State Duma, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Russia, by members of the Board and Heads of Departments of the Bank of Russia.

In June 2005, another High Level Seminar for members of the top management of the Bank of Russia is to be held within the framework of the TACIS Project. It will address issues of combating money laundering and terrorist financing. Guest speakers at the seminar will be Mr. Jean Louis Fort, President of the Financial Action Task Force — FATF, and Mr. Philip Robinson, Financial Crime Sector Leader of the Financial Services Authority of the United Kingdom.
