Counterfeit currency detection: 2019 Q1 statistics

In 2019 Q1, as many as 8911 counterfeit Bank of Russia notes were detected in the Russian banking system.

The bulk of counterfeit notes are large denomination banknotes: 5,000 ruble- (6,220 pcs.), 1,000 ruble- (1,835 pcs.) and 2,000 ruble-notes (680 pcs.). The latter are of poor quality (printed on reprographic equipment).

The number of counterfeit foreign currency banknotes detected in the first three months of 2019 totalled 523 pieces. The bulk of them were US dollars (449 notes). Other detected counterfeit foreign currency notes included the euro (61 notes), the Chinese yuan (12 notes) and the British pound (one note).
