Issue of commemorative coins of precious metals

On 16 November 2018, the Bank of Russia issues silver proof commemorative coins:

— in denomination of 2 rubles ‘Writer A.I. Solzhenitsyn, the Centenary of the Birthday (11.12.1918)’ of the series ‘Outstanding Personalities of Russia’;

— in denomination of 3 rubles ‘Saint Vladimir’s Cathedral (the Admirals’ Burial Vault), the City of Sevastopol’ of the series ‘Architectural Monuments of Russia’;

— in denomination of 3 rubles ‘Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation’.

Silver proof coins in denomination of 2 rubles (fine metal content 15.55 g, fineness 925/1,000) and 3 rubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1,000) have a round shape 33.0 mm and 39.0 mm in diameter respectively.

The obverse and the reverse of the coins have a relief rim along the circumference.

The obverse of the coins bears a relief image of the National Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and the inscriptions: „РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coins „2 РУБЛЯ” (2 RUBLES), „3 РУБЛЯ” (3 RUBLES), the year of issue „2018 г.” (2018), an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, fineness, trade mark of the Saint Petersburg mint, and fine metal content.

The reverse:

— of the 2-ruble coin ‘Writer A.I. Solzhenitsyn, the Centenary of the Birthday (11.12.1918)’ (Catalogue Number: 5110-0156) depicts a relief portrait of A.I. Solzhenitsyn against the background of bookshelves, laser treated for matte finishing; at the bottom, on the right of the portrait, there is an image of a typewriter and a piece of paper with the facsimile signature of the writer and, on the left of the portrait, the dates ‘1918’ and ‘2008’ in two lines.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs.

— of the 3-ruble coin ‘Saint Vladimir’s Cathedral (the Admirals’ Burial Vault), the City of Sevastopol’ (Catalogue Number: 5111-0396) depicts a relief image of the Western front of the Cathedral; there are two semicircular inscriptions: „СОБОР СВЯТОГО РАВНОАПОСТОЛЬНОГО КНЯЗЯ ВЛАДИМИРА” (SAINT VLADIMIR’S CATHEDRAL) at the top and „СЕВАСТОПОЛЬ” (SEVASTOPOL) at the bottom.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs.

— of the 3-ruble coin ‘Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation’ (Catalogue Number: 5111-0397) depicts the images of the Federation Council building and the heraldic symbol of the Federation Council over it against the background of the coloured flag of the Russian Federation; there is a semicircular inscription: „СОВЕТ ФЕДЕРАЦИИ ФЕДЕРАЛЬНОГО СОБРАНИЯ РОССИЙСКОЙ ФЕДЕРАЦИИ” (FEDERATION COUNCIL OF THE FEDERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION) and at the bottom there is an inscription „25 ЛЕТ” (25 YEARS) in two lines.

The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The coin is minted in proof quality.

The mintage of the coin is 3.0 thousand pcs.

The new coins are a legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
