Bank of Russia congratulates war veterans on 73-year anniversary of Great Victory

The Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina expressed her sincere gratitude to war veterans when speaking at the Victory Day ceremony: ‘The Great Patriotic War left a significant imprint in the history of Russia and Russian families. We honour the memory of State Bank employees who sacrificed their lives for the great victory, those who fought in the battlefield...’

To congratulate war veterans, the Bank of Russia invited them to the Great Hall of its Moscow headquarters. Military officers greeted the guests and saluted higher ranking officers at the entrance, while a guard of honour welcomed war veterans at the main staircase. At the lobby, a military orchestra played favourite songs of the past. The solemn ceremony was opened with a bringing-in of the Red Banner.

Elvira Nabiullina reminded that more than 18 thousand employees of the USSR State Bank from every corner of the country had been off at the front in June 1941, 15 officers were honoured with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The Governor congratulated all the guests and wished the veterans good health and long life.

Dmitry Tulin, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Russia, told how he worked together with war veterans as he joined the USSR State Bank 40 years ago. ‘You set a high moral standard that guides us, the next generations, and we will follow your example,’ said Dmitry Tulin.

The war veterans also shared their memories with Bank of Russia employees.

The guests honoured the memory of those perished in the Great Patriotic War with a moment of silence and laid flowers to the Eternal Flame and the commemorative plaque citing the names of Bank of Russia employees who died in the war.

On the eve of the Victory Day, war veterans are honoured in all regional branches of the Bank of Russia.
