On issuing commemorative coin of precious metal

On April 13, 2018 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues silver proof commemorative coin in denomination of 2 Rubles of the series “Outstanding Personalities of Russia”: “The 225th Anniversary of the astronomer and geodesist V.Ya. Struve (15.04.1793)” (catalogue number 5110-0154).

Description of the coin of precious metal:

Silver proof coin in denomination of 2 Roubles (fine metal content 15.55 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 33.0 mm, mintage 3000 pcs) has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coin bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin — “2 РУБЛЯ” (2 ROUBLES) and the year — “2018”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Saint Petersburg mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side of the coin depicts relief images of V.Ya. Struve’s portrait on the left and astronomic device against the background of the building façade of Pulkovo Observatory and starry sky performed in laser matted technique on the right. There are inscriptions along the circumference “В.Я. СТРУВЕ” (V.YA.STRUVE) at the bottom and the dates “1793”, “1864” in two lines on the right.

The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
