On issuing of commemorative coins of precious metals

On February 1, 2018 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues silver proof commemorative coins in denomination of 2 Rubles of the series „Outstanding Personalities of Russia”:

  • „The 200th Anniversary of the ballet master M. I. Petipa’s Birth (11.03.1818)” (catalogue number 5110-0152).
  • „The 150th Anniversary of the writer Maxim Gorky’s Birth (28.03.1868)” (catalogue number 5110-0153).

Description of the coin of precious metal:

Two silver proof coins in denomination of 2 Roubles (fine metal content 15.55 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 33.0 mm, mintage 3000 pcs of each design) have the rim raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coins bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: „РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin — „2 РУБЛЯ” (2 ROUBLES) and the year — „2018”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Saint Petersburg mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side:

  • of the coin „The 200th Anniversary of the ballet master M. I. Petipa’s Birth (11.03.1818)” depicts relief images of M. I. Petipa’s portrait and dancing duo against the background of the theatrical curtain. There is an inscription „М. И. Петипа” („M. I. Petipa”) and the dates „1818”, „1910”.
  • of the coin „The 150th Anniversary of the writer Maxim Gorky’s Birth (28.03.1868)” depicts relief images of Maxim Gorky’s portrait and petrel under it. There are dates „1868-1936” in two lines and facsimile of M. Gorky’s signature.

The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
