Family status: Married, has two sons and daughter.

1982-1988: professor's assistant, associate professor at the Moscow Construction Engineering Institute.
1988-1991: consultant, section head of the editorial office of Kommunist magazine.
1991: political analyst of the Moskovskiye Novosti (Moscow News) weekly.
1991-1992: economic advisor to the Russian Government.
1992-1993: head of the group of advisors to the Chairman of the Russian Federation Government.
1993-1994: assistant to the First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Government.
1994-1996: Deputy Director of the Institute of Economic Problems of the Transition Period.
1996-1998: deputy of the Moscow City Duma.
1998-2000: Deputy Director of the Institute of Economic Problems of the Transition Period.
2000-2004: First Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation.
From April 2004: First Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Russia.
