On issuing of commemorative coins of precious metals

On November 29, 2016 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues commemorative coins of precious metal:

  • Silver proof coins in denomination of 2 Roubles - “The 250th Anniversary of the Writer N.M. Karamzin’s Birth” (catalogue number 5110-0144) and “The 125th Anniversary of the Composer S.S. Prokofiev’s Birth” (catalogue number 5110-0145) of the series “Outstanding Personalities of Russia”;
  • A silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles - “Stock Exchange Building, Saint Petersburg” (catalogue number 5111-0347) of the series “Architectural Monuments of Russia”.

Description of the coins of precious metal:

Silver proof coins in denomination of 2 Roubles (fine metal content 15.55 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 33.0 mm, mintage 3000 pcs of each design) have the rim raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coins bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coins - “2 РУБЛЯ” (2 ROUBLES) and the year - “2016”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Moscow mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side:

  • of the silver proof coin “The 250th Anniversary of the Writer N.M. Karamzin’s Birth” depicts relief images of N.M. Karamzin and volumes of the “History of the Russian State”. There is an inscription “Н.М. КАРАМЗИН” (N.M. KARAMZIN) along the circumference on top at the right and the dates “1766”, “1826” in two lines below;
  • of the silver proof coin “The 125th Anniversary of the Composer S.S. Prokofiev’s Birth” depicts a relief image of S.S. Prokofiev against a background of an outline of a piano lid and a stylized stave. There is an inscription “С.С. ПРОКОФЬЕВ” (S.S. PROKOFIEV) along the circumference at the bottom and the dates “1891”, “1953” in two lines on the left.

A silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 39.0 mm, mintage 3000 pcs) has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coin bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), “БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin - “3 РУБЛЯ” (3 ROUBLES) and the year - “2016”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Moscow mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side of the coin depicts a relief image of the Stock Exchange building. There is an inscription in two lines at the bottom: “ЗДАНИЕ БИРЖИ САНКТ-ПЕТЕРБУРГ” (STOCK EXCHANGE BUILDING SAINT PETERSBURG).

The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
