On issuing of coins of precious and base metals

On December 26, 2016 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation issues:

A bullion coin of precious metal:

  • A silver uncirculated coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (catalogue number 5111-0178) „Saint George the Victorious”;

Commemorative coins of precious metals:

  • Silver proof coins in denomination of 2 Roubles „The 100th Anniversary of the Musician E.G. Gilels’s Birth” (catalogue number 5110-0146) and „The 130th Anniversary of the Poet G.M. Tukay’s Birth” (catalogue number 5110-0147) of the series „Outstanding Personalities of Russia”;
  • A silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (catalogue number 5111-0354) „The 1000th Anniversary of the „Russian Code”;
  • Silver proof coins in denomination of 3 Roubles (catalogue number 5111-0355) and 25 Roubles (catalogue number 5115-0129 and 5115-0130 for a special edition) „Jewelry Art in Russia”;

Description of the coins of precious metal:

A silver uncirculated coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 999/1000, diameter 39.0 mm, mintage up to 500000 pcs) „Saint George the Victorious” has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coin bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: „РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin — „3 РУБЛЯ” (3 ROUBLES) and the year — „2016”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Saint Petersburg mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side of the coins bears a relief image of Saint George the Victorious on a horseback spearing a dragon.

A silver proof coin in denomination of 2 Roubles (fine metal content 15.55 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 33.0 mm, mintage 2000 pcs) „The 100th Anniversary of the Musician E.G. Gilels’s Birth” has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coin bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: „РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin — „2 РУБЛЯ” (2 ROUBLES) and the year — „2016”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Moscow mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side of the coin depicts a relief image of E.G. Gilels against a background of a stylized part of a piano. There are the dates „1916-1985” on the right and a facsimile of the musician’s signature below.

A silver proof coin in denomination of 2 Roubles (fine metal content 15.55 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 33.0 mm, mintage 3000 pcs) „The 130th Anniversary of the Poet G.M. Tukay’s Birth” has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coin bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: „РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coin — „2 РУБЛЯ” (2 ROUBLES) and the year — „2016”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. The reverse side of the coin depicts relief images of G.M. Tukay, a view of a village — homeland of the poet, birds and a book. There is an inscription „Г. ТУКАЙ” (G. TUKAY) on the left and the dates „1886”, „1913” in two lines below.

There is an inscription „1000-ЛЕТИЕ РУССКОЙ ПРАВДЫ” (THE 1000TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RUSSIAN CODE) along the circumference on the left.

Silver proof coins in denomination of 3 Roubles (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 39.0 mm, mintage 3000 pcs) and 25 Roubles (fine metal content 155.5 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 60.0 mm, mintage 1000 pcs including 150 pcs in a special edition) „Jewelry Art in Russia” have the rim raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coins bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: „РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coins — „3 РУБЛЯ” (3 ROUBLES), „25 РУБЛЕЙ” (25 ROUBLES) and the year — „2016”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I.   • of the silver proof coins in denomination of 3 Roubles and 25 Roubles depicts a relief image of a sculptural composition „Troika” of the jewelry company „Sazikov” against a background of another company’s product — an inkstand. There are inscriptions: „ЮВЕЛИРНОЕ ИСКУССТВО В РОССИИ” (JEWELRY ART IN RUSSIA) along the circumference on top, „САЗИКОВЪ” (SAZIKOV) at the bottom;
  • of the silver proof coin in denomination of 25 Roubles in a special edition depicts a relief image of a sculptural composition „Troika” of the jewelry company „Sazikov” against a background of another company’s product — an inkstand. A part of the composition and the background are performed in a coloured enamel technique. There are inscriptions: „ЮВЕЛИРНОЕ ИСКУССТВО В РОССИИ” (JEWELRY ART IN RUSSIA) along the circumference on top, „САЗИКОВЪ” (SAZIKOV) at the bottom.

A silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles (fine metal content 31,1 g, fineness 925/1000, diameter 39,0 mm, mintage 3000 pcs) and a gold proof coin in denomination of 50 Roubles (fine metal content 7,78 g, fineness 999/1000, diameter 22,6 mm, mintage 1000 pcs) „The 150th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Russian Historical Society” have the rim raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference. The edge of the coins is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coins bears a relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation. There are inscriptions: „РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (RUSSIAN FEDERATION), „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA), the denomination of the coins — „3 РУБЛЯ” (3 ROUBLES), „50 РУБЛЕЙ” (50 ROUBLES) and the year — „2016”, an indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, purity, trade mark of the Saint Petersburg mint and fine precious metal content.

The reverse side:

  • of the silver proof coin in denomination of 3 Roubles depicts relief images of the first chairman of the Russian historical society P.A. Vyazemsky against a background of the Novo-Mikhailovsky palace in Saint Petersburg and a scroll. There are inscriptions along the circumference: „РУССКОЕ ИСТОРИЧЕСКОЕ ОБЩЕСТВО ОСН. В 1866 г.” (RUSSIAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY FOUNDED IN 1866) on top, „П.А. ВЯЗЕМСКИЙ” (P.A. VYAZEMSKY) at the bottom;
  • of the gold proof coin in denomination of 50 Roubles depicts a relief image of the M.M. Antokolsky’s sculpture „Nestor the Chronicler”. There is an inscription „РУССКОЕ ИСТОРИЧЕСКОЕ ОБЩЕСТВО ОСН. В 1866 г.” (RUSSIAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY FOUNDED IN 1866) along the circumference.

Description of the coin of base metals:

A coin in denomination of 5 Roubles is 25.0 mm in diameter, white in colour and has the rim raised on both sides of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.

The obverse side of the coin has an indication of the face value of the coin „5 РУБЛЕЙ” (5 ROUBLES) in two lines in the center of the disc. There is an inscription below — „БАНК РОССИИ” (BANK OF RUSSIA) and the year — „2016” under it. On the left and on the right there is a stylized image of a plant branch. In the right part of the disc there is a trademark of a Mint.

The reverse side of the coin depicts a relief image of the monument to Minin and Pozharsky in Moscow in the center of the disc. There are inscriptions: „ОСНОВАНО В 1866 г.” (FOUNDED IN 1866) along the circumference on top, „РОССИЙСКОЕ ИСТОРИЧЕСКОЕ ОБЩЕСТВО” (RUSSIAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY) in three lines at the bottom.

The mintage of the coin is up to 5000000 pcs.

The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
