The Bank of Russia makes regular purchases of the foreign currency in the context of transition to inflation targeting regime. The determination of the regular purchases amounts is based on the current state of the currency market, federal budget performance and the balance of payments estimation for the purpose of ensuring banking sector stability and neutralization of the ruble exchange rate expectations. Regular purchases are carried out only if the supply of the foreign currency exceeds the demand on it.
