Commemorative Coins

    On March 2, 2009 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation puts into circulation commemorative coins of precious metals:

     - a silver proof coin of 3 Rubles denomination, a silver proof-like coin of 100 Rubles denomination, a gold proof coin of 50 Rubles denomination of the historical series "The 400th Anniversary of Voluntary Entering of Kalmyk People into the Russian State";

     - a silver proof coin of 3 Rubles denomination, a silver proof-like coin of 100 Rubles denomination, a gold proof coin of 50 Rubles denomination and a gold proof coin of 200 Rubles denomination of the historical series "The 200th Anniversary of the Birthday of N.V. Gogol"

and commemorative coins of non-ferrous metals of 10 Rubles denomination

of the series "Ancient Towns of Russia":

    - the Town of Vyborg,

of the series "The Russian Federation": 

    - the Republic of Kalmykia.

     The Description of Coins of Precious Metals:

     The silver coin of 3 Rubles denomination (fine precious metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1000, catalogue number 5111-0182, diameter 39.0 mm, mintage 5 000 pcs.), the silver coin of 100 Rubles denomination (fine precious metal content 1 kg, fineness 925/1000, catalogue number 5117-0040, diameter 100.0 mm, mintage 500 pcs.), the gold coin of 50 Rubles denomination (fine precious metal content 7.78 g, fineness 999/1000, catalogue number 5216-0068, diameter 22.6 mm, mintage 1500 pcs.) of the historical series "The 400th Anniversary of Voluntary Entering of Kalmyk People into the Russian State".

     The rim is raised on both sides of the coins.

     The obverse of the coins: the relief picture of the Emblem of the Bank of Russia  - the two-headed eagle with wings down, and the semicircular inscription under it - "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA). The inscriptions along the rim divided by dots indicate the denomination of the coins "ТРИ РУБЛЯ" (THREE RUBLES) or "ПЯТЬДЕСЯТ РУБЛЕЙ" (FIFTY RUBLES), or "СТО РУБЛЕЙ" (ONE HUNDRED RUBLES) accordingly, and the year of issue "2009", between them - the indication of the metal sign in accordance with the Mendeleyev Periodic System of chemical elements, the fineness, the mint trade mark of the Moscow Mint and the fine precious metal content.

     The reverse:

    - of the 3 Rubles silver coin: the relief image  of a pagoda against the background of national ornaments. The inscription below along the rim on the matted figured field - "КАЛМЫКИЯ" (KALMYKIA); 

     - of the 100 Rubles silver coin: the relief image of a horseman against the background of distinctive landscape elements of Kalmykia. The inscription below along the rim on the matted figured field - "КАЛМЫКИЯ" (KALMYKIA); 

    - of the 50 Rubles gold coin: the relief image of the coat of arms of the Republic of Kalmykia. The inscription along the rim –  "РЕСПУБЛИКА КАЛМЫКИЯ" (REPUBLIC OF KALMYKIA).

     The edge of the coin is corrugated.

     - of the 3 Rubles silver coin: relief images of a portrait of N.V. Gogol and a three-horses harness (Troika) with a charioteer. The inscription above along the rim  - "Н. ГОГОЛЬ " (N. GOGOL) and the dates below along the rim on the matted field  -  "1809 – 1852";   

     - of the 100 Rubles silver coin: an outline portrait of N.V. Gogol and relief images of some plot compositions of his writings. The inscription above along the rim - "Н. ГОГОЛЬ" (N. GOGOL) and the dates in the centre  "1809 – 1852";   

    - of the 50 Rubles gold coin: the relief image of a profile portrait of N.V. Gogol with a quill. The dates along the rim to the left from the portrait "1809 - 1852", the inscription below along the rim - "Н. ГОГОЛЬ " (N. GOGOL);   

    - of the 200 Rubles gold coin: relief images of N.V. Gogol and some plot compositions of his writings. The inscription along the rim to the right from the pictures - "Н. ГОГОЛЬ" (N. GOGOL) and the dates "1809 – 1852".   

      The edge of the coins is corrugated.

    The Description of Coins of Non-Ferrous Metals:

     The coins have a form of round pieces 27.0 mm in diameter. They are combined and consist of two parts: a disc made of white metal and an external ring made of yellow one. The rim is raised on both sides of the coins. The edge of the coins is corrugated and bears the inscriptions "ДЕСЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ" (TEN RUBLES) repeated twice and divided by asterisks.

   The obverse of the coins: the inscriptions on the ring along the rim: in the upper part - "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA), in the lower one - "2009" indicating the year of issue. To the left and to the right on the external ring  - images of laurel and oak twigs accordingly, with elements of their picture going over to the disc. In the centre of the disc - the figure "10" and the inscription under it "РУБЛЕЙ" (RUBLES) indicating the denomination of the coin. Inside of the figure "0" - a security element in the form of the figure "10" and the inscription "РУБ"  (RUB - the abbreviation for Ruble) visible at different angles of vision relatively to the plane of the coin. In the lower part of the disc - the mint trade mark.

     The reverse:  

     - of the first coin: on the disc - the panoramic image of the Town of Vyborg and its coat of arms. The inscriptions on the ring along the rim: in the upper part - "ДРЕВНИЕ ГОРОДА РОССИИ" (ANCIENT TOWNS OF RUSSIA), in the lower one - "ВЫБОРГ" (VYBORG).

     Mintage: 5 million pcs.;

     - of the second coin: on the disc - the image of the coat of arms of the Republic of Kalmykia. The inscriptions on the ring along the rim: in the upper part - "РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ" (THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION), in the lower one - "РЕСПУБЛИКА КАЛМЫКИЯ" (THE REPUBLIC of KALMYKIA).

     Mintage: 10 million pcs.

     The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance at their denomination for every kind of payments without any restrictions.
