Commemorative Coins

    On August 1, 2008 the Central Bank of the Russian Federation puts into circulation commemorative coins of precious metals:

    - a silver proof coin of 3 Rubles denomination of the series "Architectural Monuments of Russia" featuring the St. Nicholas Cathedral (XIXth century) in the city of Yakutsk;

    - a silver proof coin of 3 Rubles denomination, a silver proof-like coin of 100 Rubles denomination, a gold proof coin of 1000 Rubles denomination of the series "Russia in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage" (Volcanoes of Kamchatka)       

    - and commemorative coins of non-ferrous metals of 10 Rubles denomination

    of the series "Ancient Towns of Russia":

    - the City of Prioziorsk (XIIth century, Leningrad Region);

    of the series "The Russian Federation":

    - Cabardin-Balcar Republic.

    The Description of the Coins of Precious Metals:

     The silver coin of 3 Rubles denomination featuring the St. Nicholas Cathedral in the city of Yakutsk (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1000, catalogue number 5111-0172, diameter 39.0 mm, mintage 10 000 pcs.).

     The rim is raised on both sides of the coin.

     The obverse: relief picture of the Emblem of the Bank of Russia  - the two-headed eagle with wings down and the semicircular inscription under it "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA). The inscriptions along the rim divided by dots indicate the denomination of the coin "ТРИ РУБЛЯ" (THREE RUBLES) and the year of issue "2008", between them - the indication of the metal sign in accordance with the Mendeleyev Periodic System of chemical elements, the fineness, the mint mark of the St. Moscow Mint and the fine metal content.

     The reverse: relief image of the St. Nicholas Cathedral in the city of Yakutsk in the framework of a frosty pattern. The inscriptions: at the top along the rim – "ГРАДОЯКУТСКИЙ НИКОЛЬСКИЙ СОБОР (THE ST. NICHOLAS CATHEDRAL), at the bottom – "ЯКУТСК" (THE CITY OF YAKUTSK), the date to the right from the picture of the cathedral – "XIX в." (XIXth century).

     The edge of the coin is corrugated.

     The silver coin of 3 Rubles denomination (fine metal content 31.1 g, fineness 925/1000, catalogue number 5111-0173, diameter 39.0 mm, mintage 10 000 pcs.), the silver coin of 100 Rubles denomination (fine metal content 1kg, fineness 925/1000, catalogue number 5117-0039, diameter 100.0 mm, mintage 500 pcs.), the gold coin of 1000 Rubles denomination (fine metal content 155.5 g, fineness 999/1000, catalogue number 5220-0006, diameter 50.0 mm, mintage 250 pcs.) of the series "Russia in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage" (Volcanoes of Kamchatka).

     The rim is raised on both sides of the coins.

     - of the 3 Rubles silver coin: relief image of a volcano and, against its background,  vegetation. The inscription at the top along the rim - "ВУЛКАНЫ КАМЧАТКИ" (VOLCANOES OF KAMCHATKA);

     - of the 100 Rubles silver coin: relief images of a volcano, flying birds, two bears and vegetation. The inscription at the top along the rim - "ВУЛКАНЫ КАМЧАТКИ" (VOLCANOES OF KAMCHATKA);

     - of the 1000 Rubles gold coin: relief image of a volcano reflected in the water. The inscription at the top along the rim - "ВУЛКАНЫ КАМЧАТКИ" (VOLCANOES OF KAMCHATKA).

     The edge of the coins is corrugated.

     The Description of the Сoins of Non-Ferrous Metals:

     The coins have a form of round pieces 27.0 mm in diameter (mintage 5.0 Mln. pcs.) They are combined and consist of two parts: a disc made of white metal and an external ring made of yellow one. The rim is raised on both sides of the coins. The edge of the coin is corrugated and bears the inscriptions "ДЕСЯТЬ РУБЛЕЙ" (TEN RUBLES) repeated twice and divided by asterisks.

   The obverse of the coins: the inscription on the ring along the rim: in the upper part - "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA), in the lower one - "2008" indicating the year of issue. To the left and to the right on the external ring  - images of laurel and oak twigs accordingly with elements of their picture going over to the disc. In the centre of the disc - the figure "10" and the inscription under it "РУБЛЕЙ" (RUBLES) indicating the denomination of the coin. Inside of the figure "0" - a security element in the form of the number "10" and the inscription "РУБ"  (RUB - the abbreviation for Ruble) visible at different angles of vision relatively to the plane of the coin. In the lower part of the disc - the mint mark.

     The reverse:

     - of the first coin:  on the disc - panoramic images of the town of Prioziorsk and its coat of arms. The inscriptions on the ring along the rim: in the upper part - "ДРЕВНИЕ ГОРОДА РОССИИ" (ANCIENT TOWNS OF RUSSIA), in the lower one - "ПРИОЗЁРСК" (PRIOZIORSK).

     Mintage: 5 Mln. pcs.

     - of the second coin: on the disc - the image of the coat of arms of the Cabardin - Balcar Republic. The inscriptions on the ring along the rim: in the upper part - "РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ" (THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION), in the lower one - "КАБАРДИНО-БAЛКАРСКАЯ РЕСПУБЛИКА" (THE CABARDIN - BALCAR REPUBLIC).

     Mintage: 10 Mln. pcs.

     The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance at their denomination for every kind of payments without any restrictions.
