The modified banknote has the same dimensions and general design as the 5000-ruble banknote of 1997 issue.

The colour and graphical design of the front and back of the banknote has been partially changed.

On the front of the modified banknote in the lower part of the left unprinted area to the left of the main image there is a text "МОДИФИКАЦИЯ 2010 ГОДА" (2010 modification).

Banknotes of 2010 modification have the following main differences:

  • security fibres of two types are embedded in the paper (two-coloured and one-coloured grey ones);
  • a wide security thread is embedded in the paper. It comes out on a surface on the front of the banknote in the shape of a window;
  • there is a multitone & highlight watermark on the right unprinted area;
  • the coat-of-arms of the city of Khabarovsk is printed in optically variable magnetic ink (OVMI) with the effect of a moving bright glossy bar;
  • on the front of the banknote at the edges of unprinted areas there are fine relief line marks;
  • in the bottom part of a field with the latent coloured stripes there is an area with constantly visible coloured stripes (MVC+ effect);
  • the height of figures to the left of the serial number smoothly increases from the left to the right;
  • on the back of the banknote the multi-coloured ornamental stripe has been changed;
  • some elements of the image have magnetic properties;
  • under UV and IR light the banknote images differ in some aspects from the images of the banknotes of the previous issue.

Security features checked in the transmitted light

front side

  • Microperforation

    When the banknote is held up to the source of light, one can view the note denomination “5000” formed by absolutely straight parallel rows of holes perforated in the paper. The area of a banknote with the holes does not feel rough to the touch.

  • Multitone & highlight watermark

    The watermark is located on the right unprinted area and consists of a multitone watermark (the portrait of N.N. Muravjov-Amursky) and an adjoining highlight watermark — the numeric value of the denomination (value numeral 5000). The highlight watermark has elements which are lighter than the background paper and multitone watermark. The numerals are shaded by dark lines and have the effect of volume.

  • Security thread

    The security thread (5-mm width) is embedded in the paper.
    On the back of the banknote the security thread looks like a grey opaque stripe. When the banknote is held up to the light the security thread looks like a dark stripe.

  • Microtext (value numeral “5000”)

    On the front of the banknote at the top and bottom edges there are background fragments filled with inclined microtext lines (repeated value numeral “5000”).

  • Image consisting of microelements

    The image of the distant bank of the Amur river consists of separate graphical microelements.

  • Microtext at the edges of the decorative stripe (repeated value numeral “5000”)

    At the top and bottom edges of the decorative stripe there are lines with a microtext formed by repeated value numeral “5000”.

  • Blind embossing

    Fine coloured line marks on the left edge on the front of the banknote, and fine lines at the end of the text „БИЛЕТ БАНКА РОССИИ” (The Note of the Bank of Russia) transform to the blind embossing.

Security features checked by tilting a banknote

front side

  • Latent multicoloured stripes (MVC+ effect)

    In the lower part of the security element there is an area with constantly visible red and green stripes. When a banknote is viewed at the right angle the upper part of the area looks one-coloured. When the banknote is tilted red and green stripes appear in the upper part of the security element as a continuation of constantly visible stripes in the lower part.

  • Optically variable magnetic ink (OVMI) with the effect of a moving bright glossy horizontal bar

    A bright glossy horizontal bar in the middle of the coat-of-arms of the city of Khabarovsk can be seen at the right angle. When the banknote is tilted, dynamic up-and-down move is clearly visible on the coat-of-arms.

  • Latent image of the letters „РР” (Kipp-effect)

    When a banknote is viewed at an acute angle, letters „РР” become visible on the decorative stripe. The letters become either light on a dark background or dark on a light background depending on the orientation of the banknote.

  • Moving-character effect on the security thread

    Repeated value numerals “5000” are visible on the security thread which comes out on the surface on the front of the banknote in the shape of a window. When the banknote is tilted, one can view individual movements of characters.
